This is a “Swayambhoo” (Swayam – on its own, Bhoo – emerged to vicinity from earth) temple situated at Manganam in Kottayam District of Keralam, India. The main deity here is Lord Siva, hence this temple is called Swayambhoo Siva Temple. The Devatha (Deity) of any land or locality is called as “Thevaru” in local slang. Since this temple is situated on a small mountain, which is “Kunnu” in Malayalam, the name has become “Thevar Kunnu Swayambhoo Siva Temple”.

This temple is one of the very few “Swayambhoo” Shiva temples in Kerala and is considered to be around 1000 years old, based on the available details. The main idol is Swayambhoo (the idol was emerged on its own from earth). Siva is worshiped along with his wife Sree Parvathy.
